Primary standards
All applicable standards (36)
ASME BPVC VIII-1
Rules for Construction of Pressure Vessels — Division 1
The most widely used code for design, fabrication, inspection, testing, and certification of general pressure vessels by rules-based (design-by-formula) methods.
Static Equipment
Pressure Vessel
ASME BPVC VIII-2
Rules for Construction of Pressure Vessels — Division 2 (Alternative Rules)
Provides alternative rules to Division 1 for the construction of pressure vessels. It covers vessels meant for higher pressure applications (typically 3,000 to 10,000 psig) or where weight/thickness savings justify the more rigorous engineering. The scope mandates more stringent material testing (including mandatory toughness requirements), tighter fabrication tolerances, comprehensive NDE (often requiring 100% volumetric examination), and allows the use of Design-by-Analysis (DBA) methodologies alongside enhanced Design-by-Formula (DBF) rules. It is generally not applicable for simple, low-pressure vessels where Division 1 is more economical.

ASME BPVC VIII-3
Rules for Construction of Pressure Vessels — Division 3 (High Pressure)
